Gia's story

Gia comes from the village of Charnali in the Adjara Region. He is 39 years old and lives with his big family: wife Medea, 9 year-old-son, two daughters (7 and 4 years old), his 32-year-old brother and his parents (retired).

Gia works in a local glass workshop, which produces different household goods made from glass. Along with his main job, he is actively involved in his family's agricultural business. Gia’s family is engaged in a variety of agricultural activities: They have 6,000 square meters of citrus gardens. Harvested citruses are sold to local retailers. Also, the family has two milking cows, which give approximately 40 kg of cheese per month. The cheese is sold to local dairy products retailers. Along with the above-mentioned businesses, Gia runs beekeeping business. He has 70 beehives with bee colonies. Honey is sold on local market. Total average income of the family is 1,500 Laris per month.

Gia requested credit for expansion of the beekeeping business. He plans to purchase an additional 5-6 beehives and bee colonies. It will increase the amount of honey, and thus increase of family’s total income.

With the increased income, Gia’s family will purchase new household goods to improve the living conditions for the children, as well as for the whole family.
