A loan of $1,800 helped to purchase glass and cellophane for the greenhouse.

Bessik's story

Bessik is a 36-year-old farmer from the village of Meskheti in West Georgia. He lives with his wife, Tinatin, a 4-year-old daughter, his mother and his retired aunt.

Bessik has 15 years experience in farming. Bessik’s family has a plot of the land where he grows cucumbers, greens and watermelons. He sells the harvested products on the local market. All the adult family members take part in seasonal work on the plot.

Bessik also trades scrap iron. The total average income of the family is 1,000 GEL per month.

Along with the plot of land, Bessik has a steel structure of a greenhouse. He needs to purchase glass and cellophane to cover the structure and make the greenhouse ready for the fall and winter seasons. He plans to sow greens in the greenhouse, which will be sold to wholesalers.

Using the greenhouse productively will significantly increase the income of the family. Part of the increase in income will be reinvested in the farm and the other part will be used for house renovation.
