A loan of $675 helped to sow 4 'manzanas' (approx 6.7 acres) with cassava.

Miguel Angel's story

Miguel is 65 years old and lives in Chacaraseca, a community which is located in León. He is married and has three children aged 22, 19 and 28. He farms and raises livestock.

In 1984, Miguel started working for himself. Through a loan, he started to work the land that was given to him by the government. At first it was very hard because he didn't have the tools he needed. He started growing 10 'manzanas' (one manzana = 1.68 acres) of cotton. He only had one calf. He currently has ten cows and land which he bought through a lot of hard work and sacrifice. He sows vegetables such as cassava, without neglecting his livestock business.

Miguel requested this loan so that he could sow 4 'manzanas' (approx 6.7 acres) with cassava. With this investment, he hopes to make a profit and obtain a good quality harvest. He would like to be able to leave his children a good inheritance. He would also like to get his daughter ahead in life. She is studying to become a nurse and he would like support her as far as he can.
