Gela's story

Gela is a 32-year-old farmer from the village Kedkedi in the mountainous Adjara region. He is married and lives with his wife, Kristine, two daughters (3 and 2 years old) and parents. All adult family members are involved in the family agricultural activities, which are the main source of income for the family. Gela’s family owns a hectare land where various citrus fruits and vegetables are grown. They sell the harvested products to local retailers. They also have a milk cow whose milk is used for cheese production. They sell the cheese in the village. Also, Gela runs small bee-keeping farm. He has 25 beehives with bee colonies. He sells the honey locally in the village. The total average monthly income of the family is 614 GEL. With the requested credit Gela will purchase an additional four or five beehives and bee colonies. He will get and sell more honey and the income of the family will increase, allowing the family members to purchase more and better goods and services.
