A loan of $550 helped to buy potato seeds and several sacks of organic fertilizer.

Aquelina's story

Aquelina, 58, lives in the town of Cayan. She has always been a woman who has struggled to get ahead and has lived with her husband, Epifanio, for 40 years, and cared for her seven children. They now only educate and raise the youngest of them, Gilmer. Her main virtue is perseverence. A few months ago she suffered from an ovarian illness and had to travel to the capital for treatment. Her strength and concern for work helped her recover her energy. Now she continues tending to her crop fields like she did 25 years ago, watering and fertilizing her potato crops.

What she likes most about her work is the planting season which is only twice a year, thus allowing her to dedicate time to other activities like livestock farming. She has 15 Brown Swiss cows which she raises in Chucchay, a large rural village with a lot of vegetation about two hours from her home, and where Aquelina built a stable. The milk she gets from her cows allows her to produce four cheese wheels per day which she sells to the merchants visiting constantly. This way she earns a little extra money. What she enjoys most about her work is the freedom working in her fields. Now she is saving up to buy a vehicle, since she uses a donkey for transportation. She belongs to the communal bank "Corazón D. Jesús" and this is her second loan through MFP, where she hopes to receive your support to reach her goals. She is committed to paying back the loan on time. Aquelina plans to use the loan to buy potato seeds in the varieties "yungay" and "única". She also plans to buy several sacks of organic fertilizer for a successful planting season.
