A loan of $375 helped to buy merchandise (refreshments, cigarettes, beers, juices and other items).

Madalena's story

Born in the Republic of South Africa, the applicant is a widowed mother of 10 children, whose ages she can no longer remember, but almost all of them now live independently. She attended school up to the 4th grade and then stopped going owing to her financial situation. She lives in her own house and cares for her grandchildren who live with her.
She left South Africa with her parents when she was still young and later started her own family. She has run her own business selling food for the last 20 years. She does not have any employees and she manages to earn around 3,000-4,000Mts each month, which she uses for household expenses and saves the remainder in her bank account.
She has never borrowed money from any other bank. She heard about Hluvuku through business colleagues who are also Hluvuku clients. This is her eighth loan for 10,000Mts, she intends to use this to buy merchandise (refreshments, cigarettes, beer, juices and other items) to increase her business current assets.
She is confident that she will meet the repayments without any difficulty. One of her dreams is to expand her business and to build a proper commercial establishment. She intends to apply for further loans in order to achieve these aims.
