Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

Alejandrina's story

Alejandrina is a member of the Santa Rosa de San José village bank located in the Mañazo district in the department of Puno. She is 46 years old and married with three children.
Her first loan was for 500 soles, which she invested in her business buying and selling meat, coca leaves, and cheese. She's received three loans from the Movimiento Manuela Ramos.
She will use this latest loan, in the amount of 1000 soles, to increase her working capital and buy three lambs and 20 units of cheese. She says that she works alone, since her husband works in the mine.
Her dream is to keep working and improve her business.
Her favorite things about her village bank are its punctuality and the sense of solidarity among the members.
