Turimbere Group's story

Maneno is a merchant who is 40 years old and living in the Gatumba District in the capital, Bujumbura. She has been in the shoe business for ten years. This is a trade she started following her ndagala (dried fish) business. Maneno is married to Jean, and they have two children who are in school. She supports three other children, orphans who are unrelated to her. She has an eighth grade education. Her loan of 500,000 Burundi francs is going to help increase her capital and enable her to buy many shoes to sell, so as to make large profits. She is a member of the solidarity group "TURIMBERE".
