A loan of $2,425 helped a member to buy piglets.

Melati Group's story

The Melati Group is made up of 16 women who are neighbors in the same village in Melaya, West Bali. The group is seeking a loan of 20,800,000 Indonesian rupiah (IDR) and each member will receive 1,300,000 IDR. The group was formed out of these women’s common interest in raising pigs to supplement family income, and out of their interest in education on the best practices for pig raising. This is their third loan with MUK.

Ni Ketut is the head of the Melati Group. She is married and has three children. Her younger son is in school. Her husband earns money as a carpenter, but Ni Ketut would like to help support her family with her pig raising business. She plans to sell the piglets after five months of fattening. With the increase in household income, she hopes to be able to pay school fees.
