A loan of $1,100 helped to buy fish, shrimp, and seafood.

Johanna Elizabeth's story

In La Paz is the city of Portoviejo, known in colonial times as Ciudad de Los Reales Tamarindos, where every fortnight the members of the communal lender 5 De Septiembre meet. Johana is one member who is 21, married and mother of a 2-year old son. Her husband has been a fish seller in the market of Portoviejo for the last 6 years, where he sells fish, shrimp, shellfish and other seafood, buying product wholesale early in the morning and selling in the afternoons. Johana has sought credit 3 times before, and is grateful for allowing her to grow her family's business. She hopes to one day be able to open her own shop.
