A loan of $850 helped to buy five sheep.

Elizabeth's story

Elizabeth is a member of the “San Miguel Arcángel II” community bank which is located in Ilave district, in El Collao province, in Puno department. She is 31 years old, lives with her partner, and has one child. She has a high school level of education.

Elizabeth works in her business together with her husband. She sells spices and lamb. She has been working with Movimiento Manuela Ramos for more than one year. Her first loan was for 500 Peruvian soles and she invested that loan in her business selling meat.

With this new loan for 2,300 soles, she will buy five sheep which she will later slaughter and sell for 100 - 400 soles, according to size and weight. She tells us that she buys her animals in the towns of Lloroco, Juli, Zepita, Camicachi, Acora and Ilave and makes her sales in Puno and Arequipa.

Elizabeth's dream is to own her own home and a car to move about in which would make things much easier for her.

What Elizabeth likes about her community bank are the meetings and the training sessions about business and 'machismo' (male chauvinism).
