A loan of $1,100 helped to purchase products for stocking his store, as well as radios for resale.

Edgardo's story

Edgardo, 57, resides in the community of Sanchirio (central Peruvian jungle). There he formed his family along with Magda, his wife of 22 years. Together they have four children, but they only live with the youngest, Xiomara, whom they care for in their own home. The life of this peaceable man focuses on the teaching of adolescents in the state-run high school of his area, where he has taught as a professor for thirty years. During this time his work and efforts allowed him to buy two hectares of agricultural land, where he grows coffee, thus earning extra income. Each year at harvest time he delivers the ripe coffee beans to the co-op in the area, where they pay him by the kilogram for the beans. He is happy also to have the support of his wife, who recently opened a grocery store, selling staples to area residents as well as supplying stationery and seasonal items. Now she wishes to make improvements to her store, turning it into a place where one can find "a bit of everything."

He belongs to the communal bank "El palomar al éxito" [The Dovecote to Success] and this is his first loan with MFP, where he hopes to get the support he needs to achieve his goals. Edgardo, upon receiving this support, will invest the money obtained to buy products for stocking the store with grocery items and small radios, which are common during this coffee harvesting season since the laborers buy them to be able to listen to music while they work.
