Fatuma's story

Fatuma lives in the city of Kampala, Uganda. She is single and has two children, both of whom are in school. Fatuma has a business selling charcoal. She has been in this business for four years, and she works seven days out of every week. Fatuma sells her products from home by means of retail. Fatuma has requested a loan of 700,000 Ugandan Shillings from MCDT SACCO, which she will use to buy more bags of charcoal. The main business challenges for Fatuma are transportation and defaulters. Her goal is to expand the business so that she can build rental rooms. Fatuma lives in a house that she owns; she doesn't have access to electricity and piped water. Her major monthly expenses include food, rent and school fees.
