Emanuel is aged 32 and has been in farming for six years, producing tea and milk and selling to the local market in his hometown Litein, South Rift, Kenya.
Emanuel has made a request for 50,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase a motorcycle in order to start up a transport business. He says the transport business has picked up in the area and the motorcycle will also help him bring his own produce to the market in a timely manner. He hopes the business will add to his farming income and expand the businesses significantly.
Emanuel points to drought and poor markets as the major challenges in farming.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
