A loan of $4,750 helped a member to stock up on cloth.

Jappo Jappalante Group's story

The Jappo Jappalante group was created in September 2007 on the day the "village bank" was inaugurated. It is made up of 23 women who all come from the same neighborhood. They are all small-scale retailers.

Madame Marième (seated second, left to right) is the leader of the group. She is 37, married, and the mother of four children. She is caring for three other members of her family.

She sells cloth, a business she has been in for more than 16 years. With this loan she intends to stock up on cloth. The profit from her business will allow her to put aside savings and help her husband cover food and school fees.
