A loan of $1,100 helped to buy seeds for timber-producing trees such as mahogany, 'tornillo' (Cedrelinga Catenaeformis) and cedar.

Pelayo's story

Pelayo is 45 years old and comes from the small village of Cuculipampa which is located in Anco district. He is married to 40 year-old Bertha and they have one son from their relationship,15 year-old Esaú, who they would like to provide with a good future.

Pelayo is a very selfless man who takes care to provide his family with the best he can. For this reason, he works hard on his land which is sown with cacao, coffee and yuca plants. He has 6 hectares of land in total and is familiar with the hard work of the countryside as he has been working on his own land for 20 years. During harvest time, Pelayo has the support of his son and the laborers who take charge of harvesting and transporting his crops a certain way so that they can then be transported further by beasts of burden such as donkeys. Pelayo feels very committed to his work because, thanks to his daily efforts, he is now able to enjoy seeing how productive his plants are and he manages to make good profits. He tells us that he doesn't like winter because it is during these months that there are most insects which damage his crops.

Pelayo will use his loan to buy seeds for timber-producing trees to sow around his plot of land. Later, he will sow pasture since he plans to start raising a variety of livestock.

This is Pelayo's first loan from MFP. He hopes for a small loan so that he can reach his goals and, for his part, he is ready to make his loan repayments on time. He will use the 3,000 Peruvian soles he has requested to buy seeds for timber-producing trees such as mahogany, 'tornillo' (Cedrelinga Catenaeformis), cedar, etc.
