A loan of $1,100 helped to buy cacao plants.

Mercedes's story

Mercedes is 41 years old. She lives with her partner, Edison, and they have two children who are in school: 19 year-old Walter and 10 year-old Farid. They live together in their own home, in the town of San Antonio, which is located in the beautiful jungle of Ayacucho. Mercedes stresses that everything that she obtains is through tenacity and the dedication she puts into caring for her cacao, coffee and sesame crops. She tries to provide the best possible care for her plantations and, under that premise, many of her customers are satisfied with the quality of her produce but she still puts as much care and attention into her work as she possibly can. She spends a lot of time working on her crops, with her partner's help. However, at harvest time, she needs the help of laborers who can make it easier to harvest the final product. As a result of her daily efforts, Mercedes is making a good income. Mercedes will use the loan she has requested to buy more cacao plants since she plans to graft them as they develop. Her plan for the future is to invest her profits in another type of business such as raising cattle. This is Mercedes' first loan and she is very happy to know that she will have financial support. She is prepared to make her repayments punctually, according to schedule. Mercedes will use her loan to buy cacao plants so that she can expand her crops and thereby make more income.
