From Prey Chor district of Kompong Cham Province, Mrs. Nieng, age 32, is married to Mr. Ly, age 47. Both of them are working in the farming business. They have only one child, who is a student in public school. In addition, her husband has been earning a living for many years by climbing the palm trees behind his house for extra income. Mrs. Nieng has a plot of farming land and she and her husband always use this land to grow annual rice crops. Mrs. Nieng is looking for a loan to buy two cows because her old cow doesn't support her work in the field.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
