A loan of $775 helped to purchase ingredients (flour, eggs, oil, milk, cheeses, etc.) to make her breads.

Carmen's story

Carmen lives in Coapilla, Chiapas, Mexico. She is married to Gabriel, with whom she has five children. Two of her kids are married, and the other three support themselves and are: José Alberto, 22; Benjamín, 18; and Patricia, 16. This is the second loan Carmen has requested from Kiva partner Fundción Realidad, and she plans to use it to invest in the purchase of ingredients such as flour, eggs, oil, milk, cheeses, among other items, to make her breads. She has been baking for six months and says that it is going well since she is making income for her household. She learned how to bake breads from her mother and when she married she kept working, but over time she stopped because of a lack of resources, but six months ago she started up again and it's going well. Her goal with this small business is to improve her quality of life and have her own savings to make headway for her family.
