Oy's story

Mrs. Oy C., age 40, was married in 1971 and has one son and four daughters. She has been in the business of growing vegetables on her farmland in the village since 1979. In addition, she also weaves silk at home, along with her two daughters. The youngest daughter is studying at school in Khsach Kandal district and she assists her mother in weaving silk when she is off from school. Her husband, Mr. Kroeun Rean, is a farmer, and their son helps his father in the farming activities.


Oy has borrowed money from MAXIMA three times already. Now she is requesting another loan, in the amount of $1,200. She will use this money to purchase seeds, fertilizer, and pesticides, and some of the money will be used to buy silk materials and sewing thread, and to pay fees for selecting and preparing silk on the looms.
