A loan of $250 helped to buy palm oil, flour, Irish potatoes and kerosene for resale.

Esilia's story

Esilia, who was born in 1968, is married and has six children. She lives in a two room house in Elimighong, in the Belo subdivision. She joined GHAPE in 2009 and was given a loan of 50,000 XAF, which she repaid successfully. Life has not been easy for Esilia in the past as she was unble to provide for her family, especially when her husband had an accident. GHAPE has therefore revived her from this bondage. With the profits earned from her first loan, she has paid her children's school fees.

Esilia is now requesting a second loan which she plans to use to buy ingredients for puff puff (doughnuts), Irish potatoes and kerosene. The population of her area provides a ready market and she is experienced in the field. With any profits earned from this loan, Esilia intends to pay fees and purchase a pot. She prefers a loan from GHAPE because repayment is gradual and a lower interest rate is charged.
