A loan of $425 helped to purchase construction materials for her home.

Angelica's story

Angelica was born in the district of Namaacha in Maputo province in southern Mozambique. She is 41 years old, married, and the mother of six children between 4 and 27 years of age. Five of the children attend school, while the eldest is already working. She lives in her own home with her family, and also takes care of her brother, who is mentally ill.
She left her parents' home when she got married. After a few years she was able to find work at the elementary school in Mugado, also in Namaacha district, where she has had a job as an administrative assistant for the past nine years. She works from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and earns 2731 meticals a month, which she uses for household expenses and for construction on her home. In addition, her husband, who is a border guard, also brings in a salary.
Angelica has already had one loan with BIM. She learned about Hluvuku through coworkers who are also clients of the organization. This is her fifth Hluvuku loan, and she plans to use the 12,000-metical loan to purchase construction materials (cement, iron, stone) to finish her kitchen. She used her first loan, in the amount of 7000 meticals, to buy a freezer, and the others (8000, 8500, and 9000 mt) for the bedroom.
She is confident that she will be able to pay off this loan early and request a new one in order to build a boundary wall for her house.
