A loan of $1,125 helped a member to purchase a calf.

Gulmira's Group's story

Gulmira, 45, is the leader of this group. Growing up in the village of Tup, she defined her future profession early in childhood. Gulmira received a degree in engineering and works as an engine-driver assistant in a cement plant.

Gulmira has four children. Nothing went wrong until the day when she lost her husband. Then, as the only breadwinner, she had to find ways of supporting the family financially. Three years ago she and her oldest son spent their small savings on the purchase of a very first calf. Since then cattle-breeding and reselling brings in at least 2,000 soms a month to the family budget.

Gulmira, as well as other members of her group, needs financial assistance for a further broadening of the business. Therefore they rely on Kiva lenders. Gulmira plans to spend her own part on the purchase of one more calf for fattening and resale.
