Sikasso, Mali / Animal Sales

A loan of $550 helped to purchase livestock (sheep, goats, etc.).

Sériba's story

Born on October 8, 1960 in Tinzanadougou, Mr. Sériba is married and lives with his wife and their children in a large traditional extended family in Sanoubougou I, one of the working-class districts of the city of Sikasso (Mali's third administrative region). Mr. Sériba gained interest in buying and selling livestock about nine years ago, after managing several unsuccessful businesses. He conducts his business at the livestock market in Medina, where he sells sheep, goats, etc. He is very much in demand with his customers for the quality of his livestock. To satisfy his ever-growing customer base, he has decided to join the Soro Yiriwaso micro-finance organization. He is on his first individual loan with them, to purchase more heads of livestock in neighboring towns (for instance Bamoukou, Kléla, Koro Barrage, etc.), which will allow him to better satisfy his ever-growing clientele. With this loan, he plans on making a 100,000 CFA monthly benefit, which will be used mostly to increase his capital, to contribute to the family's expenses, and to repay his loan's interests.
