A loan of $700 helped to buy merchandise for his retail store and building materials for the house that he's improving bit by bit.

Jose Del Carmen's story

Don José, 34, a native of Esteli, is a security guard. He also owns a small general store that he opened in a room of his house. He started the business 7 years ago so that he would have an extra income.
Don Jose tells us that he is pleased with his progress. He used his first loan to make improvements to his house and make the store more accessible to his customers. He bought merchandise to stock the business and paid for the construction work. The extra sales have increased his income.
He now wants to buy more merchandise--snacks, sugar, cooking oil, rice, etc.--to stock the business. He also wants to repair his roof and buy construction materials so he can go on improving his house. His goal is to continue building his business so that he can improve the living conditions of his family.
