A loan of $1,200 helped to buy corn and tomato seeds.

Euro Lenin's story

Euro Lenin is 75 years old. He’s married and lives with his wife and three children, who are 29, 31 and 33 years old, in San Pablo Parish which belongs to San Miguel Canton.

The “Unión y Esperanza” (Unity and Hope) communal bank is located in San Pablo Parish 30 minutes from the San Miguel office. The members of this communal bank farm corn and potatoes and are merchants of vegetables and others.

Lenin is a farmer. He’s a corn farmer and also grows tree tomatoes (a small tree or shrub in the flowering plant family Solanaceae. It is best known as the species that bears the tamarillo, an egg-shaped edible fruit.) in small amounts. He’s been in this line of work for a long time. He does his purchases in San Miguel and sells his products at the farmers markets in San Pablo and San Miguel.

He requests the loan to buy corn and tomato seeds. The loan has helped him increase income and crop yields. He has faced challenges like the lack of laborers and weather variations which have sometimes damaged the crops. His dream is to continue to work and earn higher income. He would like it if the tradition weren’t lost and his children continued working in agriculture.
