A loan of $550 helped to buy agricultural supplies and sow five manzanas of corn.

Erasmo Osmar's story

34-year old Erasmo lives in the Jicarito region in the department of León. He is a farmer and grows corn. He has two children aged two and six. His father taught him how to work the land as he also was a farmer. He remembers that from an early age his father used to take him to the fields and show how him how to prepare the earth. He used to wake up at four in the morning to get ready to leave for long workdays, walking 10km to get to the fields.

Erasmo only completed third year of secondary school because he had to leave to work with his father in order to be able to eat and survive. When he was 22 years old, he left home and began to work on his own land. He also sells milk (he has two cows) and firewood. He is a hardworking person who is trying to find ways to help his family get ahead.

The loan that Erasmo is seeking is to buy agricultural supplies and hire someone to help him sow five manzanas (one manzana = 1.68 acres) of corn. In this way the money will help him earn profits from his fields that he can save and then use to buy more land. In the future he wishes to continue farming, and buy more livestock and land.
