A loan of $250 helped to buy a rickshaw for her husband's transport business.

Alia's story

Alia is 46 years old, a housewife as well as a business woman. She does clothes sewing and decorative embroidery at her home. She is very skillful in both of these arts and earns a reasonably good income from her skills. She is also a very good housewife and performs her routine tasks very well. Her husband is a driver. He drives a rickshaw and provides transport services to the passengers. Alia has given birth to three sons and a daughter. Her two elder sons started work at an early age. The eldest one operates a lathe machine while the second one is a motorbike mechanic. Alia’s other children are enrolled in a local school and getting their education. She has applied for a loan from Kiva partner Asasah for her husband who wants to buy a rickshaw. He is currently driving a rented rickshaw which doesn’t allow him to drive in the evening. By purchasing his own rickshaw, he will be able to drive it without any time limitations and for longer routes also. He has been doing this business for the past 30 years and Alia is hopeful that an investment will help him make more income for his family.
