YELIAN 1 is a group composed of eleven people whose president (the one with her hand raised in the photo) goes by the name of Cathérine. The group members all reside in the same district, in Benin. With the goal of increasing their working capital, this group is requesting a loan from ALIDé for the first time.

Born in 1965 in Benin, Cathérine has been living for nine years in a city in Benin with her family. She is actually married to an entrepreneur by the name of Romain, and she has four children, who are all educated. Only one of the children remains in their care. The couple jointly supports the needs of the family.

Cathérine never attended school. For about eighteen years, she has been selling bamboo out of her house. This business generates revenues for her that helps her to do her part to cover family expenses. She gets her supplies in a city in Benin.

This initial loan will certainly enable her and her group to boost their level of business and to increase their customer base and their revenues.

YELIAN 1 est un groupement constitué de onze personnes et dont la présidente (celle qui a la main levée sur la photo) est nommée Cathérine. Les membres du groupe résident tous dans le même quartier au Bénin. Dans le but d’augmenter leur fonds de roulement, ce groupement sollicite pour la première fois, un crédit auprès de ALIDé. Née en 1965 au Bénin, Cathérine vit depuis dix neuf ans dans une ville du Bénin avec sa famille. Cathérine est en effet mariée à un entrepreneur du nom de Romain et a quatre enfants, qui sont tous scolarisés. Seulement, un des enfants reste à la charge de Cathérine et de son mari. Le couple subvient ensemble aux besoins de la famille. Cathérine n'a jamais été à l'école. Depuis environs dix huit ans, Cathérine vend des bambous à son domicile. Cette activité lui génère des revenus l'aidant à contribuer aux dépenses familiales. Cathérine s'approvisionne dans une ville du Bénin. Ce premier prêt permettra certainement à Cathérine et à son groupe de rehausser le niveau de leur activité et d’accroître leur clientèle et leur revenu.

Alidé is a Beninese NGO that works to reduce poverty by offering sustainable access to productive loans like this one in addition to savings, training sessions, and social work to low-income families.

Supporters of this loan should be aware that there is some risk of being repaid late. Because the Beninois Ministry of Finance has imposed restrictions on the amount of money Alidé can send to Kiva, the organization can only send monthly repayments in installments smaller than $13,000. This means that some Kiva lenders may receive their repayments late. However, Alidé remains a healthy institution in good standing with its creditors, and Kiva would like to continue working to support its clients.
