A loan of $2,700 helped a member to buy perfume, creams, cosmetics, etc.

Nuevos Senderos (Cuenca) Group's story

The “Nuevos Senderos” (New Paths) communal bank is composed of ten kind, cordial and, above all, very hard working women who carry out their work like they do in their homes: not missing a single detail. They live in different parts of the city of Cuenca, a city that captivates natives and foreigners alike with its architectural and natural beauty, its cuisine that captivates visitors’ palates, its kind and cordial inhabitants who maintain their culture and traditions.

Eliana, 22, lives in Cuenca. She has a spouse and a 6-month-old baby. Her husband works as a caretaker and messenger at a local school. They do not own a house; they live at the same school they take care of.

Eliana started selling Avon and L’Bel products six months ago, products that she sells to her friends and acquaintances.

This is the first loan she’s taken out in the communal bank and will invest it in perfume, creams, cosmetics, etc. She was invited to become part of the communal bank by her mother-in-law.

Her dream is to have a house of her own and to study a university career.

The children that appear in the photo are children of the members.
