A loan of $900 helped to buy blenders, irons, mattresses, etc.

Modesta's story

The members of “Crucita” communal bank meet in Portoviejo Canton’s Crucita Parish. This location is known for the beautiful beaches that surround it that are very popular with national and foreign tourists. It is known as “Crucita la Bella” (Crucita the Beautiful.)

We met Modesta, 56, here. She’s single and lives in her parents’ house. She is a founding member of the communal bank and she likes it because the interest rates are much lower than in other places and because the loans are quick with fewer requirements.

To earn her own income she is a merchant. She sells items for the home like: blenders, irons, fans, mattresses, among others via distribution savings books from the La Gran Cadena distributorship. The way she operates is this: she buys all the items for cash and then sells them according to whose turn it is among her customers to receive them. She tells us that she’s had this business for over 15 years and has always done well because she has many customers that prefer her because of the trust she’s inspired and the responsibility at the time of delivering the goods.

This loan is to buy blenders, irons and mattresses, among other products and appliances. Her dream is to enjoy good health and continue working.
