Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone is very please to present to you members of the “Pepper Sellers” group. These are small scale entrepreneurs who have come to SMT/Kiva lenders to seek for a loan of SLL 500,000.00 for each in order to invest in their businesses. Zainab is the leader of this group. Zainab is a 45-year-old, married woman with 5 children: 1 in primary school, 3 in secondary school and 1 adult. Zainab sells pepper, onions, salt, margi (used to give sauce a sweet taste), etc. She has been doing this business for 15 years now. Zainab is going to use her share of the loan to buy bags of pepper, bags of onions, and bags of salt to add to her business.
