A loan of $500 helped to purchase rice, sugar, pasta and tinned milk.

Maria's story

Maria was born in Lares, two hours from the city of Cusco in the Cusco department. She is 54, lives in Calca and is married with three children. The city of Calca is known for its beautiful landscapes and its tourism, cattle and agriculture.

We met Maria at one of her community bank meetings. She belongs to the bank 'Clorinda Matto de Turner' which is part of the Arariwa Association. Maria sells food from a rented stall in the Calca market. She works there from 5:30am to 5:30pm, seven days a week. She has been working in this field for ten years and due to the effort she puts into her work, it has been going very well for her.

Maria has applied for a loan to purchase groceries to stock up her stall. She will use this loan of US$500 to increase her working capital and buy rice, sugar, pasta and tinned milk.

Maria is a determined woman whose dream is to expand her business. She is very grateful to the Arariwa Association for providing women like herself with the opportunities to make their dreams reality.
