A loan of $1,100 helped to purchase chickens and native hens.

Narcisa Del Socorro's story

The members of the community bank "Marianita de Jesus" gather every two weeks in the beautiful city of Bahia De Caraquez which is known for its beaches, for its rich gastronomy and for the warmth of its people.

This is where we met Narcisa who is 46 years old, is married and has two sons that are 26 and 22 years old. The youngest lives in her home and is in his last years of college. Her husband is a merchant.

She is a homemaker who works in the evenings at a resort in the city of Bahia to help her husband with the household expenses and to feel useful and fulfilled. In the mornings, together with her husband, she buys and sells chickens. They have a stall in the market in Bahia where they sell whole chickens or by the pound to the people that shop there daily. They work from 6:00am until noon since she has to be at her job at 1:00pm and which she leaves at 9:00pm. She tells us that her work is hard but that she is used to it and if she does not work she feels bad. She has been working at the resort for 11 years and with her husband since they married more than 20 years ago.

This loan will be used to buy more chickens and native hens for their weekly sales.

Her dreams are to have her own resort and she and her family can have good health.
