Alba's story

Alba is a 52 year old woman who lives in one of the most cheerful and traditional neighborhoods in the city of Barranquilla. She lives with her spouse and 27 year old son. She started her own business buying merchandise in Maicao, departament of La Guajira and border area of Colombia and Venezuela. She would sell the merchandise in the city of Barranquilla, bringing clothing in the sizes ordered by customers. She built her customer base with buyers in the city. One day she stopeed travelling, because she lost money in the business and she decided to start a new business. For 13 years, she has sold plastic and metal drums. She wants to grow this activity. and her enthusiasm has generated imprtant income. At present, she is asking for her first loan from the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo because she needs to have these products. She needs the money for inventory and her working capital is very low in relation to her customer growth. With her Kiva loan, she will but more drums wholesale and earn discounts for buying upfront. Her dream is to have a house with a large space to store her merchandise. While she builds her dream, Alba continues to work at her business and with the loan she will be able to increase her working capital.
