A loan of $1,675 helped a member to pay school fees for his children.


Joseph S.k.'s Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone, is very pleased to present to you the teachers of the SLMB Primary School Upper, situated in Mile Ninety One, a small town in the Tonkolili district in northern Sierra Leone. They are requesting a loan of 7,200,000 SLL. With the help of this loan, some of these teachers will invest in businesses, while others will pay school fees for their children, and so on. At the end of each month, the school’s bursar is directly responsible for repaying SMT on these borrowers’ behalf.

Joseph is a teacher at the school and the leader of this group. The 48-year-old has been in the teaching profession for twenty-three years now. A native of Mile Ninety One town, Joseph is married and has four children. Joseph has requested a loan of 2,700,000 SLL in order to pay school fees for his children.
