A loan of $350 helped to purchase corn and firewood.

Gertrudis Patricia's story

Gertrudis is a native of León. She is 40 years old and the mother of four children (ages 18, 16, 12, and 4). Gertrudis is a merchant who sells tortillas and beans. She started this business when she was 35 since she had many options to work and four children to support. Gertrudis does not have a degree and only completed school through the sixth grade because her parents could not pay for her studies.

As a result of her family’s needs, Gertrudis began preparing tortillas and beans to sell. She previously worked as a housekeeper, but she was not able to continue because of her financial situation. Gertrudis gradually strives to earn a living and provide for the daily needs of her children. Her oldest daughter helps her with preparing tortillas when she comes home from school.

The loan she is requesting will be used to buy supplies for her work, such as corn and firewood. With this investment, she will be able to acquire more of the materials she uses in her work so that she can increase production. This will help improve her sales and generate more income. Her next goal is to make needed improvements to the infrastructure of her business.
