A loan of $1,675 helped a member to buy more fruits and vegetables.

Zenzele Group's story

Hawukelaphi is 57 years of age, and a widowed mother of 6 children aged 11 to 26. She runs a retail business in Nkandla, South Africa (KZN). In the photo she is pictured raising her hand.

Hawukelaphi has been in the business of selling fruits and vegetables at town shelters for 10 years. She also earns income from the government’s child support grant. She says that the main challenge to her business is facing rainy and cold weather when she sells, because the shelter she usually sells in is an open shelter. She requested this loan from WDB and Kiva to buy more fruits and vegetables. She adds that the extra income from this loan will help her earn profits so she can grow and sustain her business. In the future she would like to build a house for her family. She gives thanks to WDB and Kiva, and will be pleased if they can help her build a stable shelter to sell in.
