A loan of $825 helped to buy a freezer and large quantities of supplies to prepare her meals.

Rosa's story

Rosa is the owner of a restaurant which is located in Boston neighborhood, in the city of Barranquilla. She started her business when she was living in her mother's home and sold some lunches to specific people. She managed to earn a little money and then her business started to become her main source of income. She is able to develop her independent spirit through her business.

Rosa is a married woman who has one 7 year-old son. When she decided to work in this business full time, she changed house and bought tables, chairs and work tools. When her business started to grow she moved again to larger premises and the business has continued to grow since. Currently, when Rosa's customers fail to turn up on time, they find themselves unable to buy lunch because Rosa has sold out. This is why Rosa is applying for a Kiva loan (the first loan that she has received from Fundación Mario Santo Domingo). She would like to increase her working capital and be able to respond to the market which has turned its eyes towards her business.

Rosa will use this loan to buy a freezer and supplies in bulk. Her dream is to own her own premises but she needs to grow her business some more and increase her sales in order to achieve this dream. In the meantime, she continues working hard and making income to support her household.
