A loan of $375 helped to buy organic crop fertilizer.

Delia's story

Delia is 40 and a hardworking and honest woman. She has 3 children, the two oldest work independently and the youngest is the last child of her companion of 3 years, Jeremías; they live together in Alto Yapas. The time she spends working with her husband in agriculture are profitable at harvest time; they grow coffee, citrus fruit and plantains on their own land, and have done so for the last 3 years. Her children help her bring in the harvest, and she pays them 20 soles per day. She enjoys clearing the cropland and weeding, allowing the fruit crops to develop. She finds it difficult to transport the harvest, package it and get it to markets in cities such as Lima and Huancayo. Delia has now begun selling coffee beans to an export company, and now plans to acquire more land to put into coffee cultivation. She has also established a small general store in her house, and hopes to improve its conditions in the future. Delia is a member of the communal lender “Los progresistas”, and this loan will be her third with MFP, so she is familiar with the group's credit terms. Delia will use this credit to buy sacks of organic fertilizer for her coffee crop, to increase quality and production.
