A loan of $1,100 helped to buy sacks of organic manure.

Elvis's story

Elvis, 29, lives with his partner, Melinda, 30, and with his two-year-old son, Ángel, in his own house located in Alto Yapaz. His main occupation for the last six years has been farming. He has fields of his own to farm and apply all the farming techniques he learned from his father. He, therefore, cares for his banana, citrus, coffee and pineapple crops in an orderly way. He lets his spouse help him fertilize them once they are completely free of weeds.

What he likes best about his work is harvesting and crating the fruit to ship it directly to markets in the cities of Huancayo and Lima and calculating an approximate estimate of his profits. However, it annoys him to have to pay exorbitant fees to transport his crops. Because of this he’s planning to buy a truck so that he can transport without so many inconveniences. However, because his activity is quite profitable, he wants to buy more land that will increase production and he also wants to buy another house with more comforts for his family.

He is a member of the “Los Progresistas” (The Progressive Ones) communal bank and this is the third loan with MFP. He relates that he enjoys working with his communal bank because it’s composed of supportive, responsible and honest people.

Elvis is about to start harvesting ripe coffee beans. Because of this he will use the loan to buy several sacks of organic manure that will help him balance production.
