Gema Consuelo's story

Gema Consuelo is a member of the ‘Virgen de la Inmaculada’ Communal Bank, located in the District of Tarapoto within the Province and Department of San Martín. She is 52 years old and divorced.

At a young age, her love for sewing brought her to study haute couture and fashion design. In 1991, she stopped working as a teacher and completely dedicated herself to working as a stylist. She started by making underwear for men and women and sold them to stores in the District of Tarapoto, making herself well-known. As a result, she was able to establish a business at her house where she makes uniforms by request for employees of public and private institutions. Currently, her work is more oriented towards making bed linens like sheets, bedspreads and pillowcases.

With this loan of 1,000 Peruvian Nuevos Soles (PEN), she will purchase special fabrics for making sheet sets and bedpsreads, thread and needles to continue providing quality service to her customers.

Gema considers herself to be a successful woman and she is very grateful to Movimiento Manuela Ramos for helping women like her to have opportunities to grow and get ahead.
