A loan of $450 helped to purchase construction materials to expand her business location and to acquire basic grains.

Manuelita Lucia's story

Doña Manuelita, age 40, was born in the Department of León and works as a merchant who sells food. She is married and has two children. Manuelita only has a third grade education. As a young girl, she had to work very hard since she and her parents lived in poverty. Being able to go to school and paying for her studies was a luxury that her parents could not provide. Her first experience working was as a young girl selling ice water on the streets. She also sold fruits and vegetables. Since then, Manuelita proceeded through life with great sacrifice and effort. Today she operates an eatery out of her home with the help of her husband. Previously she had a shop at the bus terminal where she sold fruits.

Manuelita is requesting a loan in order to improve the location of her business. She wants to buy construction materials such as zinc and wood, as well as invest in basic grains. With this investment, she hopes to expand her business and attract more customers. Her goal is to convert her eatery into a restaurant.
