A loan of $600 helped to buy fabric, thread, lace and accessories.

Nancy's story

Nancy, 62, is the owner of a clothes making workshop located in her home at Villa Paraiso, a suburb of Barranquilla where her three children, aged 33 to 38 years old, were born. From an early age Nancy enjoyed sewing and that's why she trained in it. She started her business 40 years ago in this same spot. She started with a sewing machine owned by her family. Today her business structure includes an additional 4 industrial sewing machines. Her daughter-in-law helps her and during busy times she contracts workers to meet the demand from her clients. In her business she makes women's dresses and also offers made-to-measure services. Clients bring her the materials needed so she can make the fashionable items each of them demands. The returns of her business have allowed her to make improvements to her home, which used to be built in wood. This Kiva loan is her first one with Fundacion Mario Santo Domingo and she will use it to buy fabric, thread, lace and accessories to fulfil orders for women's dresses that she has already received. Her goal is to improve the distribution of her infrastructure even further, so that the workshop is located in separate premises. In the meantime, Nancy continues to work and to generate a profit no less than 45%.
