Estrella's story

Estrella L. is from the village of Lubid, Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur. She is 49 years old. Estrella is married and has five adult children.

To make a living, Estrella makes and sells food and drinks for passengers in the bus terminal. Estrella has been engaged in her business for over six years and earns approximately 7,000 PHP a month.

In 2011, Estrella joined GDMPC to gain access to financial services to help improve her business and living situation. Estrella is requesting a loan of 5,000 PHP, which will be used to purchase raw ingredients needed to cook snacks for sale. This will be the first loan taken out by Estrella from GDMPC. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to improve the general living conditions of her family.

GDMPC is one of the most progressive cooperatives in Mindanao, Philippines. It has seven branches covering the provinces of Zamboanga del Sur, Lanao del Norte and Misamis Occidental. Its membership is composed mostly of farmers, fisherfolk and small entrepreneurs.
