A loan of $1,000 helped to buy fabric and other dressmaking supplies.

Maria Elena's story

Mrs. María Elena Zenteno Tejerina, 24, lives in a neighborhood in the city of Tarija. She is a single mother of one daughter. María Elena has sold vegetables for over six years in the local farmers market but she also is starting to make women’s clothes. This work has helped her quite a bit because, since she is well known by many, she’s been brought contracts to make many items. In order to do so she needs fabric, lining and other dressmaking supplies.

María Elena wants to earn better income to provide a better life for her daughter but she tells us that she wants to buy more material and that’s what the loan will be used for, to buy this merchandise in order to increase her income this way.

Elena tells us that she wants to improve her living conditions and this is why she says that the next loan she will request will be to buy a sewing machine because it seems this activity will produce higher income.
