A loan of $1,075 helped to purchase cocoa plants.

Marlene's story

Marlene is 28 years old and she is a young woman who is enthusiastic and hardworking. She lives in a house which she owns together with her partner, Edwin, 32 years old, and their 2 beloved children. She wants to provide them with a better quality of life. Marlene worked her parents’ land since she was a young girl. With the savings she accumulated and her inheritance from her parents today she has 3 hectares of land and she works them with great ardor to make them very productive. She cultivates cocoa, coffee, and citric fruits. The products are later taken all the way to the city of San Francisco where she sells them in wholesale. Her cultivations have been providing her with the income she needs to support herself and to cover the family's expenses. What she most enjoys about her business is to care for the cultivation. She feels very happy doing so. She has 4 years in the business. The most difficult part is to transport the products from the fields to the businesses in her community. For this she hires farm hands to help her. In the future she wants to purchase more land to increase her cultivation. This is her first loan with MFP (Kiva Field Partner). She has the obligation to make her payments on time and she is ready to do so because she wants to access another loan in the future. She is thankful to the organization for granting her a loan. With the loan she requests she will purchase more cocoa plants to graft them and to take good advantage of her products in less time.
