Magbesseh Group's story

Pictured here are members of the “Magbesseh” group from Magburaka, a town in northern Sierra Leone. They are petty businesswomen who have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva, in order to seek a loan of SLL 1,200,000 for each in the group. With this loan, they will be able to add more goods to their businesses, attract more customers, make more sales and profit and consequently improve their living conditions.

The leader of this group is Fatmata B.. Fatmata was born in the village of Massang forty years ago. She is married and has five children. Her husband is a trader and one of her children is attending primary school while four are in secondary school. Fatmata has been selling peppers, flour, palm oil, rice, etc. for the past six years now. With her share of this loan, she is going to buy the above-mentioned items in bulk to add to her business.
