A loan of $4,250 helped a member to buy chickens and pigs.

Mi Bankito (Cuenca) Group's story

The communal bank Mi Bankito (My Little Bank) is made up of 13 members who are friends and live in the same zone of the city of Cuenca. This city is a mix of colonial and modern. Its people maintain their culture and traditions. They are friendly and cordial like our members who work in various activities that allow them to support their household finances and get their families ahead. Ms. Nube L. lives in the zone of Monay. She is 29 years old, married and has 3 children who are 8, 5 and 2 years old. Her oldest daughter is studying in one of the city’s schools. Her husband is a chauffeur. Between them they have managed to construct their own home. Nube is a professional tailor and works in a factory near their house. There she makes pants. She works from Monday to Friday from 8 in the morning until 6 in the evening. At home she takes care of their children as well as raises and sells chickens and pigs. Nube has been a member of the communal bank for a year and was invited by a friend. She will invest the money from the loan in buying chickens and pigs to continue this business, Her goal is to complete her secondary studies. In the larger group photo there is a small attached photo of Mrs. Gloria Susana, who, because of extenuating circumstances, could not be present when the group photo was taken.
