Teresa's story

Teresa is a member of Shipibas, a Communal Bank located in Calleria, a district of the Ucayali department. She is 65 years old and she has 8 children, but they are all adults and they live with their own families.
She engages in animal farming, breeding poultry. She owns a modest landed property where she breeds them. It is 2 years she has been requesting loans from Manuela Ramos (Kiva Field Partner).
Thanks to a loan of 2000 PEN she will buy 2 bags of maize, 1 bag of Purina brand feed, vitamins, 20 ducklings, 10 laying hens, 10 ducks and a couple of pigs.
As she lives alone, she faces few expenses, and she is therefore able to support herself with what she earns from selling her animals. At her age, she still feels strong enough to keep on working without having to depend on any of her children.
